Our raw material - the eucalyptus

For wood raw material we mainly focus on the eucalyptus tree. This fast-growing hardwood is durable, strong and versatile making it a valuable resource in various industries. On average, many species of eucalyptus can reach maturity within 5 to 8 years. Some species, like the Eucalyptus Grandis, can grow up to 2.5 meters per year under optimal conditions. This growth-rate is one of the reasons why eucalyptus plantations are a great and sustainable solution for wood raw material.

The eucalyptus wood is highly regarded in the pulp and paper industry with its high growth rate as well as high cellulose content and yield, suitable for high-quality paper, and packaging materials. It’s high cellulose also makes it a popular and high-energy crop for biomass and energy producers. The eucalyptus wood is also extensively used in construction and building materials due to its robustness and durability, as well in furniture production due to its aesthetic appeal and strength.

But one of the most compelling aspects of eucalyptus is the sustainable nature of this raw material. Without deforestation and managed responsibly to avoid ecological imbalances, the eucalyptus plantations provide a fast growing renewable and natural resource that can be sustainably harvested. These plantations also aid in carbon sequestration and are also sometimes used in reforestation projects.

There are close to 200 different eucalyptus trees, and we mainly provide our customers with the Eucalyptus Urograndis which is a crossbreed of Eucalyptus Urophylla x Eucalyptus Grandis. This local hybrid is the result of decades of research and development and is perfectly adapted to the climate and soil conditions in northern Brazil. It produces fast-growing trees with high pulp yield.
